About
TheConstitution.ie is an independent, unofficial site dedicated to the Irish Constitution. It aims to be the definitive reference, providing unparalleled insights into the textual evolution of the Constitution over time.
The inspiration for the site came from the realisation that it was exceedingly difficult to answer questions about the Constitution, such as "When was this text added?", "When was that text removed?", or "How often was this Article amended?".
Technology
The site is optimized for performance and reliability. To achieve this, all of the site's pages are pre-rendered to static files ahead of time.
Specifically, the technology stack is:
- XML, to represent the Constitution's text and the changes to be applied by each Amendment.
- Server-side React, to structure the design of the site's pages, its reusable components, and to render to static HTML.
- Bun, a fast JavaScript runtime, to run the site's build scripts.
- Cloudflare Pages, to serve the static files.
